Chair-Elect
The Chair-Elect will serve in a series of three one-year offices, each having one vote on the Board: first as Chair-Elect (preparing to be Chair the following year), then as Chair (leading the Chicago Section), and then as Past-Chair (advising the Chair and Chair-Elect). The person elected in this election to be Chair-Elect in 2027 will thus serve as Chair in 2028. The Chair-Elect also serves as the Chair of the Willard Gibbs award jury, overseeing the process of selecting the next Gibbs medalist.
Ilana Lemberger

PLATFORM STATEMENT
I am honored to be nominated for Chair-Elect of the ACS Chicago Local Section. With more than a decade of dedicated service, including leadership roles as Program Chair, Director, Alternate Councilor, and Women Chemists Committee Co-Chair, I am passionate about advancing our mission, strengthening member engagement, and inspiring the next generation of chemical professionals.
As a result of my global pharmaceutical and life sciences experience, including my recent participation at CPHI Milan 2026, I bring an international perspective and extensive professional network to our section. I will leverage these connections to attract distinguished speakers, showcase emerging scientific innovations, and foster collaborations that expand opportunities for our members.
My priorities include strengthening industry-academic partnerships, expanding student and early-career engagement, promoting chemical literacy, and increasing ACS Chicago's visibility locally, nationally, and internationally.
As Chair-Elect, I will lead with enthusiasm, collaboration, and a commitment to ensuring our members feel valued, connected, and empowered.
Together, we can build on our section's proud legacy while shaping an innovative, inclusive, and inspiring future for chemistry in Chicago.

I am seeking to work with the Chicago Local Section of the ACS because I want to strengthen the voice and visibility of professional chemists. I have seen how chemists create connectivity across an organization, bringing together people with different expertise to understand and solve difficult problems. Our value extends well beyond providing analytical or technical services; chemists are important partners in innovation, decision-making, and problem-solving. I would like to use this position to help others recognize chemists as integral contributors to the success of their organizations.

Section Councilors represent members in this deliberative assembly. Council deliberation and action must ensure that the members have a strong voice in how the ACS works. While the Council meets twice a year as a body, much of the day-to-day governance happens in committees. It is essential for councilors to actively participate in committees and make effective contributions that support our members. I have been and continue to be active in committee leadership positions that support ACS activities with the public, government, and international chapters. I'm currently a subcommittee Co-Chair for the International Activities Committee. As your representative, I always guide my actions by how they will benefit our members.
