    "ONE DOOR OPENS....ACS CAREER SERVICES"

    ABSTRACT

As a kid, my family thought that I would be a professional student because I loved taking classes about science and many other topics. After graduating with my Ph.D., I worked in industry and then unexpectedly took an academic position I learned about through networking after the lab closed. Shortly after I started teaching, I learned that my calling was not to be a professional student but to be an educator and coach. In this presentation, I will help others to achieve their career goals by sharing my experiences and lessons learned, and information about the many career services offered by the ACS.

    MEET THE SPEAKER

Katie Leach graduated from the University of Rochester with her Ph.D. in physical chemistry. She relocated outside of Chicago to work in industry as a Research Scientist for a small environmental lab that performed government contract work. Katie has also worked as a Lecturer at Valparaiso and is currently serving as a Digital Faculty Consultant for McGraw-Hill, helping others navigate their career paths, and earning a Pastry Arts culinary degree to perfect her French macaron recipes. In her free time, Katie enjoys running, volunteering for the ACS, traveling, and spending time with her husband, twin boys, and two golden retrievers.
